Henshaw Barn, Henshaw, Hexham, Northumberland

Henshaw Barn, Henshaw, Hexham, Northumberland

Henshaw Barn is a luxurious barn conversion surrounded by open countryside and glorious views, located in the tranquil village of Henshaw. Retaining many original architectural features and being sympathetically restored, it oozes character and charm.

Lying amidst the most spectacular Northumbrian scenery and supremely well situated, we are a mere 4 miles from the most scenic parts of the iconic Roman Wall and are within walking distance of the internationally renowned museum at Vindolanda, where enthusiastic volunteers continue to unearth exciting finds.

In the mid-1800s, Henshaw Barn was an agricultural building. The upper floor held straw, hay and animal feed, whilst the ground floor provided welcome shelter for cows and calves in the bleak winter months. Slow but steady deterioration eventually caused the building to fall into disrepair and the conversion to residential use was finally completed in 2006.

Being close to the most scenic parts of Hadrian’s Wall the barn is a brilliant base for walkers and cyclists. And as we are within minutes of the A69, Hexham, Corbridge, Newcastle and Carlisle are well within reach, as is Newcastle Airport, the A1 and the M6.

We have 2 lovely double rooms, one with an en suite and the other with a private bathroom immediately next door. One of the double rooms can be made as a twin. Rooms have ceiling beams and pleasant views and are furnished with very comfortable beds, quality bed linen, bathrobes, hairdryers, fine toiletries, well-stocked welcome trays, flat-screen TV's and lots of books. Our guest sitting room is comfortable and cosy – a great spot for pre-dinner drinks – and has a small fridge holding complimentary bottled water and fresh milk.

Enjoy great food at Henshaw Barn. John is a classically trained professional chef, with a wealth of experience. He provides inventive food using fresh, seasonal, locally sourced products – some homegrown in our allotment.

Our breakfasts are amazing and include a rich mix of cereals, a fabulous fresh fruit salad, croissants, fruit juice and rustic bread. We provide a traditional Northumbrian breakfast as standard – John’s speciality is his homemade black pudding – with Craster kippers and lighter options also available. Our evening meals are simply delicious – do check our menus on our website – with all meals served around our shared dining table. Vegetarians, vegans and those with special dietary needs are easily catered for. We also provide excellent packed lunches.

Northumberland is wild and inspiring, a land of legend, steeped in history. Attractions and activities abound – historic houses, museums, castles, cathedrals, glorious gardens, open spaces, solitude, beautiful beaches, wildlife, dark skied Keilder, and our stunning National Park – there is something for everyone! Henshaw Barn is the perfect place to relax, recharge, unwind and return.
