The Old Station, Bomere Heath, Shrewsbury, Shropshire

The Old Station, Bomere Heath, Shrewsbury, Shropshire

The Old Station Guest House B&B is in the heart of the Shropshire countryside, just under ten minutes by car along quiet country lanes from the historic county town of Shrewsbury. Its central location makes it an ideal base for exploring the rich landscape of Shropshire, the Welsh Borders and even parts of Cheshire.

Originally constructed in 1847, this former railway station has been lovingly restored and expanded into a welcoming bed and breakfast. It offers six uniquely designed en-suite guest rooms, each one named after a GWR steam engine and featuring charming Victorian-style décor. Guests have a choice of quad, triple, double and twin rooms, some equipped with TVs, and all with tea and coffee-making facilities. For added convenience and accessibility, there is a ground floor double room with a wet room. Each stay includes a full English breakfast, providing a hearty start to the day’s activities.

The dining room, once the original station waiting room, is where guests can enjoy freshly prepared breakfasts and pre-ordered evening meals, all cooked to order. The guest sitting room, formerly the booking office, has been transformed into a cosy space to relax with a book or chat with fellow travellers. On sunny days, guests are welcome to unwind outdoors on the original station platform or in one of the two patio areas, both equipped with tables, chairs and umbrellas. For those travelling with pets, there is a large covered dog kennel with an attached run in the grounds.

The Old Station Guest House is perfect for family gatherings, offering ample off-road parking for up to ten vehicles, with additional space available for larger vehicles like horse boxes and minibuses. The property also features wheelchair access, making it suitable for guests with limited mobility.

Next to the guest house is the Bomere Heath cricket ground, while a short half-mile walk leads to the village of Bomere Heath itself. Here, visitors will find convenient amenities including a Co-op supermarket, post office, hairdresser and fish and chip shop. A public footpath, accessed from the cricket ground car park next to the property, leads directly into the heart of the village.
