Originally a gentleman’s residence, it has been sympathetically renovated and extended, to provide guests with award-winning accommodation that enjoys beautiful views. The guest house is situated close to Shanklin Chine, Keats Green, the beach & beach lift. Old Shanklin Village with its beautiful thatched pubs, houses and restaurants are a couple of minutes walk away. The area is fantastic for exploring by foot or by car.

Monkton Wyld Court is a large country house and grounds in an idyllic location close to the village of Charmouth in Dorset, not far from the market town of Bridport. At Monkton Wyld Court, we have a long history of offering bed and breakfast hospitality in our beautiful Neo Gothic house, with its arched windows and doors, and comfortable rooms which are each full of individual character. An assortment of twin/double rooms and family rooms with up to six beds overlook our terraces, meadows, woods and the surrounding Dorset hills. We are happy to accommodate single guests, families and larger groups. While there are no en suite facilities, all rooms are close to toilets, showers and bath. Whether you are attending a course, going on a weekend break in the countryside or looking for an alternative base from which to explore the area’s coast and countryside, we can cater for a whole range of needs.

For breakfast, help yourself to cereal, muesli, toast, a selection of organic spreads, and home made yoghurt and milk from our Jersey cows. Porridge is served if requested the night before, made from whole oats and slow cooked in a thermal cooker overnight, and everything is provided for you to cook eggs from our own hens to your taste in our Victorian Kitchen. We can also cater for a range of special diets if reserved in advance. A variety of teas, coffee and other hot drinks are available at any time. Lunch and supper are also available by reservation. All our food is vegetarian and organically grown and much of it comes straight from our own garden and orchard. Guests are welcome to bring their own drinks; our tiny licensed pub also stocks Branscombe Vale Brewery ale and you can buy Fairtrade wine and other essentials at our small shop.

During their stay, our guests have use of our Visitors’ Dining Room, the Piano Room (a large sitting room with grand piano and reading library) and our beautiful lawns, terraces, gardens and pastures. Our house (a Grade II listed building) and grounds provide plenty of space and views for contemplation, and we can provide details and maps of local walks. The local beaches at Charmouth and Lyme Regis offer a rich variety of environments to explore, and there are a host of other local attractions nearby. In all, the Monkton Wyld Court experience is an ever changing blend of peace and quietude with friendly company and busy activity.
