Charcott Farmhouse offers wonderful guest house accommodation in Leigh, Tonbridge. It is the perfect base from which to explore this glorious part of Kent.
Tucked away in the Weald countryside, this pretty 16th-century farmhouse is typical of the local Kentish architecture. No longer a working farm, it now forms part of a peaceful homestead well away from any roads and surrounded by open fields.
The 3 twin bedrooms are simply furnished with pretty traditional country fabrics and have either en suite facilities or a private bathroom next door. All have ample clothes storage, fully adjustable central heating, tea & coffee making facilities, hairdryer & mineral water.
Downstairs, the old beamed bakehouse still retains its original bread oven and provides a small comfortable sitting room where guests can relax over a cup of tea. In the summer, tea is often served outside in the warmth of the sun-baked terrace, overlooking the garden.
Breakfasts are cooked on the kitchen Aga and served communally in the dining room with individual timings to suit. Eggs are fresh from the flock of free-range chickens. Cereals, fresh fruit and juice are available on a 'help yourself' basis. Tuck in to a traditional farmhouse fry up, poached eggs, scrambled eggs with smoked salmon, kippers or even kedgeree. English cheeses and continental breakfasts are of course available for guests with smaller appetites and all bread is homemade along with a range of marmalade and jams. As far as possible, all ingredients are organic and locally sourced. Vegetarian and special diets can generally be catered for, provided enough notice is given.
Nearby attractions include Penshurst Place and the National Trust village of Chiddingstone - both only minutes away with Hever Castle, Chartwell, Knole Park, Squerryes Court and Ightham Mote all under half an hour.
