Dungallan Country House, Oban, Argyll

Dungallan Country House, Oban, Argyll

Perched gracefully on the shores of Oban Bay, Dungallan Country House offers a refined retreat that captures the very essence of Scottish grandeur. Originally built in 1870 as a summer residence for the Duke of Argyll, this historic manor has been sensitively restored to provide luxurious accommodation while retaining its aristocratic charm and timeless character.

Today, Dungallan is a distinguished 5-star guest house, thoughtfully designed to blend the elegance of its heritage with the warmth and style of Highland living. The interiors feature soft textures, warm tones and polished finishes, creating an inviting and serene atmosphere for guests.

Conveniently located just a ten-minute walk from the heart of Oban, Dungallan is an ideal base for exploring the beauty of the west coast. Guests can enjoy island-hopping excursions, tour historic castles, and immerse themselves in whisky heritage. The property also makes a graceful haven for golfers, with a proud partnership in place with Glencruitten Golf Club, the home course of professional golfer Robert McIntyre.

Each day begins with a generous breakfast offering — from a traditional full Scottish to continental favourites, along with freshly made omelettes and pancakes. All meals are prepared using high quality, locally sourced ingredients that reflect the region’s culinary strengths.

Afternoon tea at Dungallan is a highlight in itself. Lovingly prepared on-site, these elegant offerings are enjoyed by residents and locals alike, served in the inviting lounge bar, peaceful library or on the scenic wraparound patio overlooking the bay. As the evening settles in, guests may also choose from a refined selection of cold platters, presented in the same relaxed and atmospheric spaces.

The day ends in Dungallan’s lounge bar, where an impressive collection of over 220 whiskies awaits discovery. This is complemented by a curated selection of Scottish island gins, hand-picked wines, prosecco and Champagne, offering the perfect conclusion to a day of exploration or relaxation.

With its rich history, thoughtful hospitality and spectacular setting, Dungallan Country House offers a unique blend of luxury and tranquillity in one of Scotland’s most beautiful coastal locations.
