The Malt Shovel, Cannington, Bridgwater, Somerset
The Malt Shovel is a classic country pub with rooms, located at the heart of the ancient parish of Cannington - the gateway to the Quantocks - where it has served locals and travellers as a public house and inn for over 160 years.
Now with a new team at the helm, The Malt Shovel has been updated and refreshed throughout, whilst retaining the comfortable feel of a traditional village pub.
We offer a warm welcome to all; whether you’re enjoying a pint of real ale with your dog by the open fire in our cozy snug, or getting the family together for some fantastic locally-sourced food in our bright and spacious restaurant.
When the sun does shine, our huge garden offers plenty of space to relax and while away long summer evenings, and you won’t have sampled all our comforts until you’ve stayed in one of our eight en-suite bedrooms, a few short steps away from the pub.
Kitchen/food: Whether it’s a long lingering lunch or a sumptuous supper, we strongly believe that the best meals are made using fresh, local produce. We use this seasonal bounty to create hearty but thoughtful and delicious pub food. Our diverse menu offers our take on much-loved British pub classics alongside less common bistro-style dishes – there’ll be something for everyone!
Bar: With our background in independent brewing we boast an excellent and unusual range of real ales, specializing in the interesting, local end of the spectrum, and have a carefully selected wine list alongside some tasty bar snacks. Our open fire will keep you warm (if the sunny beer garden doesn’t), and if you love your sport you’ll find us showing selected sport events throughout the year!
Rooms: Our eight bed and breakfast rooms are housed in a modern annexe overlooking the garden at the rear of the pub. Carefully designed to feel like a ‘home from home’, there are comfortable twin or double bed options, and all rooms feature super crisp linen and full en-suite bathrooms with complimentary toiletries. They also have free Wi-Fi, flat-screen TVs and tea & coffee making facilities, ensuring you have the perfect base from which to explore all that the area has to offer if you’re travelling for fun and a convenient and comfortable place to relax if you’re working nearby.
