The Historic Ships and Dockyard at Portsmouth are a short journey by train or road and Chichester and Goodwood Race Course are also half an hour away. As well as excellent shopping and a lovely cathedral, Chichester has its famous Festival Theatre. National Trust properties such as Uppark and Hinton Ampner are near Petersfield with Petworth House within half an hour's drive.
For walkers and cyclists, the South Downs Way is nearby as well as lots of shorter walks to include a pub lunch. The countryside around Petersfield is an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The Channel is half an hour away with seaside walks and seafood restaurants. Ferries to the Isle of Wight leave from Portsmouth Harbour Railway Station.
