Blenkinsopp Castle Country Inn, Greenhead, Brampton, Cumbria

Blenkinsopp Castle Country Inn, Greenhead, Brampton, Cumbria

Set against the backdrop of historic Hadrian’s Wall in the heart of the beautiful, unspoiled Northumbrian countryside, Blenkinsopp Castle Country Inn is a remarkable former coaching stable dating back to the 13th century. Connected to a Grade I listed castle with ancient and historic origins, the inn is a true treasure trove of architectural character and heritage features, offering guests a unique and memorable place to stay.

Traditional in style, the inn is full of charm, with exposed wooden beams and a roaring open fire creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere that reflects the building’s long history and rural setting.

The inn offers five comfortable bedrooms, including two doubles, one twin and two family rooms. Each room has its own external door, providing direct access to the outdoors and added privacy. All rooms are fully en-suite with separate showers and are equipped with tea and coffee making facilities, TV and WiFi. Breakfast is included and can be enjoyed in the bistro or in the comfort of the room. One of the family rooms features a king size bed and two single beds, while the other offers two king size beds with the option of an additional single bed.

In the evening, guests can dine in the restaurant, choosing from a delicious menu alongside daily specials. After dinner, the bar provides a relaxed and inviting space to unwind with a drink and enjoy the inn’s cosy ambience. Outside, a sun terrace and garden offer the perfect spot to relax and enjoy the countryside on brighter days.

Located in and around Greenhead near Brampton, the area is rich in attractions that combine history, nature and family-friendly activities. Blenkinsopp Castle itself is a striking historic site, steeped in border history and set within the dramatic landscapes of Northumberland. Visitors can explore stretches of Hadrian’s Wall, enjoy scenic walks at Walltown Quarry Country Park, or visit the nearby Walltown Visitor Centre for views and insight into the Roman frontier. The remains of Thirlwall Castle are close by, as is the Roman Army Museum, which offers fascinating insight into Roman military life. For outdoor leisure, Talkin Tarn Country Park provides a beautiful setting for walks, picnics or boating, while Walby Farm Park is ideal for family days out. The inn is also located within one of the largest Dark Sky areas in Europe, making it an excellent spot for stargazing on a clear night.

For those exploring the area on foot, the inn is happy to offer pick-up and drop-off for walkers within a five mile radius for a small additional cost, making Blenkinsopp Castle Country Inn an ideal base for discovering this historic and scenic part of Northumberland.
