Jamaica Inn, Bolventor, Launceston, Cornwall

This historic 1750s coaching inn was made famous by Daphne du Maurier’s novel of the same name and is now a 36-bedroom hotel which welcomes families & has dog friendly rooms available too.

Set in the lovely Cornish hamlet of Bolventor, halfway between Launceston and Bodmin, this is a great base for visiting anywhere in Devon or Cornwall. Explore during the day & you can still be back in time for dinner!

The hotel has romantic old bedrooms with 4-poster beds, modern rooms in the new building, family rooms, dog-friendly rooms and also suites including the luxurious Daphne du Maurier Suite with its 7’ Emperor bed. All bedrooms have free, fast Wi-Fi and a big screen TV with Sky Sports, Sky Movies and BT Sports channels. All guest rooms have been tastefully decorated and furnished, have en-suite bathrooms and are very comfortable with a choice of soft or hard pillows ensuring you get a good night’s sleep.

Breakfast starts at 7.15, light bites and cream teas are available all day, lunch from 12 noon to 3pm & dinner from 5pm to 9pm. Several real ales are always available as well as Cornish beers and lagers and the inn’s own Jamaica Inn rum.

The Smuggling Museum is the largest in Cornwall and includes a short film of tales of wreckers, murderers and villains and the part the Inn played in the smuggling. Attached to the museum is the Daphne du Maurier Room filled with her personal memorabilia such as her Sheraton writing desk that she wrote many of her novels on.

The Gift Shop is packed with over 5000 items to choose from and the new Farm Shop has fresh bread baked daily & lots of Cornish produce.
