The Anglers Return, Connemara, Roundstone, Co Galway

The Anglers Return, Connemara, Roundstone, Co Galway

In a lovely corner of Connemara, between the mountains and the sea, sheltered by Derradda Hill, lies this charming guest house, The Anglers Return. In this house of timeless elegance & comfort, you will find a caring peace, where you can truly relax and be looked after in a unique atmosphere.

The house has lovely rambling gardens, its own brown trout lakes and many maps to great walks. Beautiful beaches, sea fishing, boat trips, golf links, excellent restaurants & pubs with traditional music are all nearby.

The house lies in 12 acres of deciduous woodland, including an orchard and three acres of natural gardens which ramble over rocky outcrops, through woods & flowers & ferns. Follow winding paths past scented azaleas, an organic vegetable patch, to bluebell woods and hidden seats. These gardens, especially beautiful in late spring and early summer, provide a peaceful retreat.

The Anglers Return overlooks the famous Ballynahinch River, halfway between the pretty fishing village of Roundstone and Cashel Bay. Always as a backdrop to this amazing landscape lie the magnificent Twelve Bens and Maamturk mountain ranges, only minutes away, as is the ocean and a great choice of golden sandy and coral beaches, a walkers paradise!

It was built in the 18th century as a fishing lodge, but now welcomes artists, walkers, writers and guests who simply want to experience a pure taste of Connemara and enjoy the special ambience that the house provides.

The whole house has a peaceful atmosphere with whitewashed walls, wooden floors, old maps and antiques, fresh wildflowers, many books and open fires. The sitting room, with piano and two bay windows, overlooks the river and opens onto a pretty terraced garden with tables for morning coffee. Two of the rooms are en suite and three of the rooms have a wonderfully large bathroom with a Victorian bath & large shower to share. All guest rooms have wash hand basins.

This house is not an ordinary guest house. It is hoped that the minimum stay is 2 to 3 days, so the feeling of peace and calm and caring is not disturbed and where guests can fully enjoy the house and garden and everything the beautiful area has to offer. This includes leisurely breakfasts, wholesome food, tea in the garden, great walks and perhaps a bottle of wine by the turf fire overlooking the lake.

Game and coarse fishing can be arranged and sea fishing opportunities are plentiful around the coast. Boats depart daily to the islands, as do scenic boat trips in the many bays. The mountains lie northeast of The Anglers Return with easy access to walkers & climbers. The headlands and sand dunes around the coast provide miles of spectacular walks for the non-climbers. Derradda hill and the Ballynahinch woods nearby offer great walks for those who wish to walk from the house and leave their car behind! Explore the beautiful wild rugged and unspoilt area of Connemara!
