Ascot House, York, North Yorkshire

Ascot House, York, North Yorkshire

Ascot House offers magnificent accommodation in the historic city of York. The city centre of York is only a 15-minute walk away, making us a great base for exploring the local area.

We have twelve elegant en suite bedrooms available. All the rooms have TV, complimentary tea and coffee making facilities, en suite facilities, hairdryers, radio alarms and free wireless broadband internet.

On the ground floor, there are two comfortable rooms, a twin room with a shower and toilet, and a double with bath, shower and toilet. These rooms are especially useful for guests who do not wish to climb stairs. The rooms do not qualify as 'suitable for the disabled' as access to the front of Ascot house is up a few steps, although we do have a wheelchair ramp.

Climbing the beautiful pitch pine staircase, the half-landing boasts an extremely rare and unusual curved stained oriel window. When on a sunny day, a cascade of colours light up the stairs on to the first floor where you will find six spacious bedrooms, with fourposter or canopy beds. On the top floor we have four spacious bedrooms with modern en suite showers.

There is a spacious and comfortable lounge where you can relax, watch television or enjoy a drink from the 'Butlers Pantry' courtesy of our residential licence. Tea and coffee are also served throughout the day in the lounge.

Delicious traditional and vegetarian breakfasts are served to you in our attractive dining room. Continental options are also available from our buffet with generous portions to start your day.

York has so much to offer with its narrow streets and medieval churches. Award-winning attractions with the Roman, Viking and National Railway Museums and of course, the Minster are all close by. It is also famous for our Racecourse with race meetings throughout the warmer months of May through to October. The world-renowned Ebor meeting is the most popular, if you are wishing to stay during any of the race meetings you will have to book well in advance.

The Malt Shovel, Cannington, Bridgwater, Somerset

The Malt Shovel, Cannington, Bridgwater, Somerset

The Malt Shovel is a classic country pub with rooms, located at the heart of the ancient parish of Cannington - the gateway to the Quantocks - where it has served locals and travellers as a public house and inn for over 160 years.

Now with a new team at the helm, The Malt Shovel has been updated and refreshed throughout, whilst retaining the comfortable feel of a traditional village pub.

We offer a warm welcome to all; whether you’re enjoying a pint of real ale with your dog by the open fire in our cozy snug, or getting the family together for some fantastic locally-sourced food in our bright and spacious restaurant.

When the sun does shine, our huge garden offers plenty of space to relax and while away long summer evenings, and you won’t have sampled all our comforts until you’ve stayed in one of our eight en-suite bedrooms, a few short steps away from the pub.

Kitchen/food: Whether it’s a long lingering lunch or a sumptuous supper, we strongly believe that the best meals are made using fresh, local produce. We use this seasonal bounty to create hearty but thoughtful and delicious pub food. Our diverse menu offers our take on much-loved British pub classics alongside less common bistro-style dishes – there’ll be something for everyone!

Bar: With our background in independent brewing we boast an excellent and unusual range of real ales, specializing in the interesting, local end of the spectrum, and have a carefully selected wine list alongside some tasty bar snacks. Our open fire will keep you warm (if the sunny beer garden doesn’t), and if you love your sport you’ll find us showing selected sport events throughout the year!

Rooms: Our eight bed and breakfast rooms are housed in a modern annexe overlooking the garden at the rear of the pub. Carefully designed to feel like a ‘home from home’, there are comfortable twin or double bed options, and all rooms feature super crisp linen and full en-suite bathrooms with complimentary toiletries. They also have free Wi-Fi, flat-screen TVs and tea & coffee making facilities, ensuring you have the perfect base from which to explore all that the area has to offer if you’re travelling for fun and a convenient and comfortable place to relax if you’re working nearby.

www.thebandbdirectory.co.uk The Scott Arms, Kingston, Corfe Castle, Dorset

www.thebandbdirectory.co.ukThe Scott Arms, Kingston, Corfe Castle, Dorset

The Scott Arms can be found in the wonderful village of Kingston, near Corfe Castle in Dorset. The pub offers a place to enjoy a well deserved beverage, something to eat and a place to stay while exploring this beautiful part of the West Country. The location is unrivalled, lucky to be set in a location where you can enjoy what is possibly the best view of the spectacular Purbeck countryside.

So spectacular is the view from The Scott Arms pub that a mounted telescope has become a permanent fixture in the beer garden! Centre stage is the shattered ruins of Corfe Castle, framed with perfect symmetry by a pair of thoughtfully matching hills. Some distance away, behind the castle, is the top of Poole Harbour. Viewed through the telescope, the winding streets, rooftops and church of Corfe resemble a model town.

Both residents and non-residents are welcome at the pub. It is open every day for lunch and dinner, with seasonal menus being very popular. Using fresh local ingredients from Purbeck helps the chefs to create an exciting selection of modern classics. During the summer there is little more pleasurable than eating some genuine barbecued Jamaican food from The Jerk Shak in the garden, sitting in the warmth of a balmy evening and staring out across to the ruins of Corfe Castle.

The Scott Arms is located at the top of Kingston Hill on the corner of West Street. It isn't hard to spot: the building is covered by a dense Virginia Creeper for most of the year.
