Haughley House, Haughley, Stowmarket, Suffolk

Haughley House, Haughley, Stowmarket, Suffolk

Blenheim Lodge offers bed and breakfast accommodation with wonderful panoramic views of Lake Windermere to the mountains and the surrounding area. Set in National Trust acres in Bowness on Windermere, this 4-Star guest house is located in the heart of the Lake District National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Blenheim Lodge Guest House:

They offer a variety of rooms all beautifully decorated to provide that little bit of comfort we all want when we stay somewhere. The guest house is unique, offering pretty rooms, many with cherished antique pieces of furniture. They even have two stunning 4-poster bedrooms. All the bedrooms feature handmade deep pocket-sprung mattresses for a great night’s sleep, for which they get many compliments! Ten of the bedrooms have views to Lake Windermere and the fells and one has views over the countryside. Ten rooms have en-suite shower rooms, and one has a private bathroom with a clawfoot slipper bath.

There is a lounge for guests to use, again with stunning views. On arrival, they like to welcome guests to relax in here with a cuppa and biscuits.

When you stay at Blenheim Lodge, a highlight is the quality breakfast you are offered. They use local produce where possible including succulent sausages and hand-cured bacon freshly made by the local butcher and delivered to the door. The breakfast eggs come from a local free-range farm. We have a wide menu from the Full English to fresh fruit, scrambled, poached and fried eggs, pastry, yoghurts and cereals. If you have any dietary requirements, please do let them know when you are booking.

Just a Tiny Snapshot of Things to See and Do:

There is so much to see and do in the area, with many lakes, fells, towns and villages to explore, and plenty of walking and cycling trails as well as other activities, such as boating, ghyll-scrambling, and the Via Ferrata. Visit the home of Beatrix Potter, the famous creator of Peter Rabbit, or Dove Cottage, one of the former homes of William Wordsworth, the Romantic poet who wrote the famous poem, “I wandered lonely as a cloud”. These places and many more to visit are all within easy striking distance of our Bowness B&B by private or public transport. It is even possible to hire a bike - including electric bikes - or buy a bus pass to explore and discover the Lake District National Park easily from the quiet but centrally located Bed and Breakfast.

The Dales Way Footpath

The B&B is the first one next to and en-route for The Dales Way Footpath, a long distance walk from Ilkley in in the North Yorkshire Dales to Bowness on Windermere in the Lake District National Park. We are perched on Brant Fell, with stunning views to Lake Windermere and beyond to the fells. There are plentiful walks from the house so that no transport is required, including three easily reachable viewpoints within 10-20 minutes’ stroll:

The Dales Way Seat: 1 minute walk from Blenheim Lodge to The Dales Way Seat offering gorgeous far-reaching views of Lake Windermere and the northwestern fells.
Post Knott: 10 minutes’ walk to this viewpoint where there is a bench to sit upon and enjoy excellent panoramic views of the 9.5-mile Lake Windermere..
Brant Fell: 20 minutes’ easy walk from Blenheim Lodge that repays the walker with 360-degree bird’s eye views of Lake Windermere to the distant fells of the Lake District National Park.

Some Local Activities and Places of Interest

Cruise Lake Windermere, enjoy the scenery whilst going out on a horse, canoe or paddle-board on the Lake or take off in your own hired boat! Alternatively, explore the village with its mix of local eateries and plentiful independent shops.

www.thebandbdirectory.co.uk Verandah House, Stowmarket, Suffolk

Verandah House is an historic grade II listed building, located in the centre of Stowmarket, and is a fine example of a Georgian gentleman’s residence.

Built originally around 1700, a cottage and stables were added to the original house in 1729. Later in the mid 1800s the main house and cottage were joined together with the addition of a substantial Victorian extension, to provide the charming house we now enjoy today.

At Verandah House there is a wide choice of single, twin, double and family rooms, including one ground floor double/twin, all of which have en-suite facilities.

The breakfast menu at Verandah House caters for all tastes, including special diets.

Our house is less than 100m from the Regal Theatre, and little more than a five minute stroll from the Market Place, yet Verandah House is surprisingly quiet and peaceful within its tranquil walled garden.
