Chawton, a small quintessential English village, is situated 2.5 miles outside the market town of Alton in an area of outstanding natural beauty within the South Downs National Park.

Chawton was home to the novelist Jane Austen who spent the last 8 years of her life in a 17th Century house which is now preserved as a museum in her memory.

Local attractions include the Cathedral City of Winchester 16 miles to the West of the village. Gilbert White’s House and the Oates Museum in the neighbouring picturesque village of Selborne. The ever popular Watercress Steam Railway Line runs from Alton to Alresford.
The historic naval port of Portsmouth is 30 miles south. Basingstoke and Guildford are in close proximity. Regular trains leave Alton Main Line Station to London Waterloo.

The Garden House is a five bedroom family house situated in 2 1/2 acres of beautifully maintained historic gardens within easy walking distance of The Chawton House Library, St. Nicholas’ Church, the Jane Austen Museum, Cassandra’s Cup CafĂ© and The Greyfriar Public House.
