The Cottage Lodge, Brockenhurst, Hampshire, New Forest
Treat yourself to a stay at the Cottage Lodge five gold star B&B in the heart of the New Forest National Park village of Brockenhurst. Why not sleep in a beautifully handcrafted four-poster? Or treat yourself to a room with a little garden? Come as a family and take over one section of the building. Or bring your dog into one of our two purpose-built rooms.
All guest bedrooms come with en suite, flat-screen tv, DVD players, coffee and tea making facilities, access to ‘real milk’ and cakes, in-room safes & hairdryers.
Cottage Lodge was built from a ship in 1650. It was originally a foresters cottage but it has been enlarged and updated to a 16 bedroomed B&B. Set in the heart of the village of Brockenhurst, it is just a short walk to cycle hire, restaurants, pubs, a supermarket, chemist, newsagents, hardware shop and antique shops. Within a few minutes walk of the Cottage Lodge, you can find yourself in the New Forest national park. Unchanged for 1,000 years, the forest’s landscape is shaped by the ponies, cattle, donkeys and pigs that roam freely.
The winter months of January and February can be a magical time in the New Forest. It’s a season of crackling, frosted leaves; of snow and storms, dark, starry skies and dramatic sunsets. Winter is the perfect time to wrap up warm and walk or cycle in the forest, there's fewer visitors so more chance of getting close to nature.
March, April and May see the spring flowers and local historic gardens in full bloom. June is the month when the new foals arrive, lots of proud mums and wobbly legs! August, September and October see the forest change from purple heather to its autumn best. September and October 500 pigs are let loose on the forest for the Pannage. Pannage is an ancient custom of allowing the pigs and their piglets to eat green acorns that are poisonous to other grazers. November is the height of autumn colour as our trees change to an amazing array of colours. The forest is a wonderful place to base yourself for a pre-Christmas break in December. Go shopping at nearby Winchester Christmas market is a real treat.
