Four Gables, Boston Spa, Wetherby, West Yorkshire

Four Gables, Boston Spa, Wetherby, West Yorkshire

Four Gables is a 5-star B&B offering first-class service in a unique 1900 Arts & Crafts era Grade II Listed home. The house is lovingly maintained and full of character, with oak and terracotta floors, fireplaces, gorgeous moulded ceilings, and many period details. The beautiful gardens, extending over half an acre, have received a number of awards.

All of the beds have a fluffy down duvet (a lighter duvet is provided during the summer months) and all of the bed linen and towels are Egyptian cotton. There's free Wi-Fi throughout the house. Each room has a television with DVD player, and there is a small library of movies for guests to choose from. There are tea/coffee making facilities with local bottled water or a filter jug (more environmentally friendly!), with a selection of coffees and teas as well as a biscuit to take the edge off. By the way, each of the bathrooms has a window - most hotels don't!

Double Bedroom: It is a warm and welcoming room with original English oak hardwood floors and thick piled wool rugs to step onto when you get out of bed. There's an Arts & Crafts wardrobe, and the room includes a TV & DVD. The en suite bathroom overlooks the original brick wall along with the vegetable garden. This room was constructed of what used to be the back stairs, house bathroom and maids' upstairs scullery, so it was easy to leave a window in the bathroom.

King Bedroom: We have furnished it with period beech and walnut furniture and artwork, most of it original. Featuring a beautiful art nouveau fireplace, the room includes TV & DVD. The English oak hardwood floors came with the house; all we’ve added is some thick wool rugs, including a nice oriental one. The en suite bathroom is tiled in gleaming white – and yes, it has a window.

Twin Family Room: The room also has a west-facing bay window overlooking the front garden, birch period furniture and an impressive art nouveau fireplace. Hanging oriental rugs from Morocco and Turkey add a somewhat exotic touch, which is enhanced by a number of original works of art. Like the other rooms, the twin bedroom has original hardwood floors with strategically placed thick wool rugs, as well as period furniture and a TV & DVD. The en suite bathroom was formerly the landing for the servants’ stairs (with a window!).

Breakfast at Four Gables is a treat. A generous continental breakfast includes fruit from David's garden (in season) and Anne's homemade compote, jams, marmalade and tea bread. Cooked breakfasts can be traditional English (using locally sourced ingredients), or interesting daily specials. Vegetarian options available, as well as a 'breakfast to go' for very early risers.

Well-behaved dogs are welcome in the cottages, £20 per dog (£25 for 2) per week or visit for shorter stays but in the interest of guests who may suffer from allergies, pets are not allowed in the bedrooms at Four Gables. There is safe walking for dogs up Oaks Lane as well as lovely paths along the river.
