The Riverside at Aymestrey, Aymestrey, Leominster, Herefordshire

The Riverside at Aymestrey, Aymestrey, Leominster, Herefordshire

The Riverside at Aymestrey is a charming 16th Century traditional inn located on the southern edge of Mortimer Forest near Leominster in Herefordshire. Surrounded by rolling countryside and the peaceful River Lugg, the inn offers a relaxing rural escape while retaining the character and warmth of a historic English inn.

Each of the rooms is individually furnished, with several featuring original 400-year-old beams embedded within the walls. The spacious suites provide extra comfort, each with its own sitting room and en suite bedroom. The Hayloft suite overlooks the river and opens directly onto the ornamental terrace gardens, which in turn look out across the valley. The Stable suite opens onto the courtyard and is particularly well suited for guests with reduced mobility. Rooms overlooking the River Lugg and the surrounding Aymestrey countryside also include modern comforts such as flat-screen televisions, Noble Isle toiletries and homemade biscuits.

Breakfast at The Riverside is always freshly cooked to order using locally sourced ingredients wherever possible. Freshly laid eggs from the village are a key ingredient in the kitchen’s much-loved scrambled eggs, reflecting the inn’s commitment to quality and local produce.

The bar and restaurant have been thoughtfully maintained in a traditional style, with log fires, candlelight, hops, oak beams, brick and stone creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere. When the weather allows, guests can enjoy dining beside the river or in the terrace garden, while a stroll around the kitchen garden offers a glimpse of some of the ingredients used in the kitchen. The bar serves hand-pulled real ales from Cleobury Mortimer and Stoke Lacey, along with cider sourced from Tenbury Wells and Leominster.

The inn proudly supports local producers from farms and specialist suppliers across North Herefordshire, the Welsh Border and South Shropshire. The kitchen team regularly forage in nearby meadows, hedgerows and along the riverbank for seasonal ingredients such as wild garlic, elderflower and nettles, making the most of what the surrounding countryside naturally provides.

For those looking to explore the area, there is an excellent selection of circular walks ranging from three to fifteen miles. One of the most popular routes takes walkers to an Iron Age hill fort before continuing on to Croft Castle, a historic estate with over 1,000 years of history. More adventurous visitors can walk from Ludlow to Kington over two or three days, taking in some of the most spectacular scenery in Herefordshire.

With The Riverside at Aymestrey as a base, visitors can also explore the Black and White Village Trail, nearby towns such as Ludlow and Hereford, and a wide range of attractions including historic houses and gardens, heritage sites, breweries, cider presses, cheesemakers, visitor centres and country parks. Whether visiting for relaxation, walking or discovering the rich heritage of the region, The Riverside offers an ideal place to stay in the heart of the Herefordshire countryside.

White Horse At Woolstone, Uffington, Oxfordshire

White Horse At Woolstone, Uffington, Oxfordshire

The White Horse is a traditional pub that offers beautifully appointed guest rooms, a relaxing environment to enjoy a drink and a delightful restaurant serving seasonal cuisine. This incredibly pretty pub is in a beautiful location at Woolstone near Uffington and is an ideal base for business and leisure guests who are visiting this lovely part of Oxfordshire.

We have 6 guest rooms available, all of which have been thoughtfully decorated and furnished, providing guests with boutique-style accommodation. They include modern facilities and uncharacteristically high water pressure. We have 4 double rooms and 2 twin rooms; however, one of the twins can be set up for family sleeping. This room is set over 2 floors and has a sofa bed on the lower floor and twin beds on the upper floor. All of the guest rooms include:

TV.
Wi-Fi internet access.
Hot beverage tray.

Breakfast is freshly prepared each morning and is served from 7 – 9.45 am on weekdays and from 8 - 9.45 am on weekends. Lunch and dinner is available in the restaurant, which is also open to non-residents.

The bar at The White Horse is the heart of the pub. Expect to mix with locals, those staying the night and our guests enjoying fine food and wine. Well, our garden is a wonderful place to enjoy a drink and an evening away from the hustle and bustle - with its own Italian wood-burning pizza oven.

The White Horse is one of Britain's oldest Inns and with its thatched roof, oak beams, log fires and a warm welcome is probably one of its most beautiful, as well. Built in Elizabethan times, the pub itself is almost half a century old and is set in the old-world village of Woolstone, in the heart of the vale of Whitehorse; 11 miles from Swindon, 5 miles from Faringdon and 7 miles from Wantage. Popular with locals, tourists, and all those who love good food and top-class accommodation, the pub is perfect for those who enjoy walking and exploring the visual delights of the nearby White Horse Hill, the Ridgeway and other ancient monuments. Nobody knows for sure when the Uffington horse was cut, though the general belief now is that it is probably 2000 years old and possibly even older.
