Smugglers Rock Country House, Ravenscar, Scarborough, North Yorkshire

Smugglers Rock Country House, Ravenscar, Scarborough, North Yorkshire

Smugglers Rock Country House is a stone-built Georgian property built in approximately 1840. The house is situated in Ravenscar in the beautiful North York Moors National Park. It offers panoramic sea and countryside views with wonderful walks in every direction.

All bedrooms are nicely furnished and have solid pine furniture. Three of the rooms have four-poster beds and some have long-distance views.

The guest lounge is comfortable and spacious with a television and plenty of reading material available (including local interest information, magazines and paperback books). Please note there are no ground floor bedrooms.

Smugglers Rock is an ideal place to stay for a relaxing holiday in the heart of the beautiful Yorkshire countryside. Robin Hood's Bay is easily accessible by road or on foot and York is only an hour's drive away. There is pony trekking in Snainton.

Ravenscar is known as 'the town that never was'. It was intended to be the next Scarborough and the Ravenscar Estate Company who owned much of the land in the area drew up plans for the town, put in roads and started building houses. A railway station and hotel was built and prospective purchasers were brought in by train to choose building plots. However, due to the inaccessibility of the beach and the height of the cliffs, the whole idea was dropped and we are left with the hamlet and scattered houses that are here today.
