The Cumberland Hotel has five comfortable and cosy bedrooms all en suite with TV, hairdryers and tea and coffee making facilities. All linen, towels and basic toiletries are provided.
Comprising of 3 double rooms and 2 twin rooms, 3 of these are classified as 'family rooms', with extra single beds.
The tastefully furnished rooms are comfortable and well-presented. Beds are often commented upon as providing the best night’s sleep in ages, with fluffy feather pillows, crisp white linen, and a warm comfortable duvet, we hope you will agree.
Some rooms have a shower only. If you need to have a bath, please state at the time of booking.
Here at The Cumberland, they have a comfortable restaurant open to both residents and non-residents with provision for 20 covers. All food is freshly prepared in the kitchens (vegetarians are well catered for) a dining experience with a difference in a place full of character.
The bar is fully stocked with an emphasis on Real Ales and Cider. Regarded by the local Campaign for Real Ale Branch as a 'must visit', they have the best range of cask-conditioned ale in Alston.
Breakfast is served between 7.30 – 8.30 am.
Within easy reach of the Lake District National Park (on the A686 recently included in the AA Magazine's "The World's 10 Great Drives"), Northumberland National Park and Yorkshire Dales National Park. Newcastle, Carlisle, Penrith, Appleby, Keswick, Ambleside, and Kendal, all are in easy reach driving through some of the best countryside in the world. Ullswater, probably the best of the lakes is only 30 minutes away.
