Criccieth is a picturesque, quiet and romantic seaside village situated at the south coast of the Lleyn Peninsula. The "southern portal" to the peninsula is dominated by the castle sitting upon a seaside rock.
It has been Welsh in the 13th century before it was taken over and changed by the English under Edward I. The Welsh rebel prince and hero Owain Glyndwr took the castle in 1404 and only 50 years later the castle lay in ruins as it still does today.
