Five Acres is a country house that was built in 1925 by William Hindley, the owner of the Sovereign Confectionery Company in Church Lane, Lowton.  Later in life the house became a nursing and maternity home with many local residents being born here.

The Smith family bought the house and grounds in 1977 and it has been their home ever since. During that time the family have developed stables and a livery yard along with a busy Physiotherapy Clinic.
