The
Marks, which dates back to the 16th century, is reputed to be the dower house
for McLellan’s Castle in Kirkcudbright.
The
farmhouse, with log fires roaring in the Study and Drawing room, is set in a
large rambling old world garden through which you are welcome to wander.
Surroundings are tranquil and peaceful, nights are stunningly starlit.
In
the farmhouse we offer Bed and Breakfast, with dinner in the evening if you
wish, all good home cooking using our great local produce.
The
bedrooms pleasantly situated with views over the garden and Galloway countryside,
are all comfortably furnished, including hospitality trays.
The
farm is a very picturesque place, with the Galloway hills as a backdrop,
planted up in the early 1920’s as a shooting estate. With lots of woods, walks,
a loch, and parkland to explore, you could enjoy a day out just around the
farm.
An
after-dinner seat in the garden or an evening stroll just down the Marks drive
will take you into a starlit world, weather permitting of course. The lack of
light pollution means that the constellations are very easily seen on a clear
night.
Why
not try out Hill walking, or take a relaxing bike ride down one of the many
cycle routes; if you’re looking to have a more relaxing break you could have a
wonder round Kirkcudbright art exhibition or Threave School of Gardening.
